Aleister Zahn- High Protector of The Order of The Divine Light
Height- 5’4”
Age-Unknown
Description: High Protector Aleister Zahn is a short, Gaunt man. Like most of the elders in the order, Aleister is blind. Spending the majority of his life looking to the sun for enlightenment. He is slightly hunched due to his age, which is unknown. Holders of the position of High Protector seem to live an exceptionally long life and over time their ages seem to be forgotten. Aleister is a quiet man. Who no longer performs the services of the temple. He is brought out on major ceremonies, such as the celebration of the summer solstice, the longest day in the sun, but otherwise spends his time meditating on the cliffs and reading in his study. Oddly enough, much like the other elder members of the order, Aleister Zahn does not seem to need any assistance whatsoever navigating the meditation steps or the temple itself. Aleister was quite the learned individual. Personally, translating many of the texts that are found in the main library. Sadly, since his blindness, he has been relegated to reading only Braille. However, he can verbally translate between several languages. Including: Common, Dwarven, Ancient Dwarven, Elven, Celestial, Infernal, Undercommon, and if described to him or written in his palm can even translate Thieves-cant.
In the early days of The Order, the world was much more chaotic. Bandits from the Tuwati Desert would raid the temple and take its iconography, food and supplies. As a result, the position of High Protector was traditionally that of a warrior monk. A highly methodical and intelligent individual with a great mind for defense and the martial arts. As time progressed, and the temple took on a much more prominent position in the world, the need of a military protector of the temple was diminished. The role of High Protector began to take a different shape. A protector of knowledge armed with intelligence and faith as opposed to a protector armed with sword and mace.
