Zendalyn’s first solid memory is sitting on the beach in Torjibad alongside his brother, Lazlor.  There are wisps of memories.  Images of his mother’s face and times on a sailboat, but he doesn’t remember anything solid before that moment.  Waterlogged and disoriented, the two brothers were mere children as they sat alone on the beach.  A young dwarven merchant came upon the two boys and did not know what to make of them.  Even a man as well travelled as he was had never met 5-year-old, dragonborn children.

Even at 5, Zendalyn stood almost eye to eye with their new, stout, bearded rescuer.  The little dragon puffed out his chest and gave Hoffa an undeveloped roar.  Hoffa took an immediate liking to the boy, and his brooding brother. Zendalyn took to Hoffa as well.  Enjoying his boisterous nature.  Not to mention the fact that being the same height as an adult made him feel good.  They spent some time in Torjibad attempting to find any information on who the boy’s parents were.  There was no information to be had.  They simply seemed to be a couple of strays that washed up. Hoffa knew that there wasn’t much he could do for the two, but he knew who could.  So, they joined his caravan and they proceeded to their next stop, Respland and The Temple of The Divine Light.

The temple was known to care for orphans.  Hoffa also knew that some of the wisest individuals in all of Kul De’Has resided there. While his crew set up shop outside the gates, Hoffa took the children in to see The Elders of the order.  After a conversation, High Protector Aleister Zahn was summoned to the cathedral.  Although blind, Aleister seemed to look the two children up down and through.  The gaze of the blind man was a little unnerving.  Although he apparently couldn’t see, it appeared he could peer into the very essence of you.  Being a boy of 5, however, most of the depth of this scenario was lost on Zendalyn.  While he was attempting to figure out this old man, he suddenly crouched down in front of the two boys so as to be at the same eye level as the children and spoke.  “I can offer you a home here.  A roof over your head and food in your belly.  I can teach you the world of books and knowledge and grow your back sturdy and your arm strong.  These things are not mine to give, they are gifts from The Divine Light themselves.  Aoalani sees in you great things and it will be up to you if your deeds will bring her glorious light into the world or if you will shroud it in a greater darkness.  Who knows which, but perhaps we can find out together.” With that he touched each boy on the shoulder and proceeded out of the cathedral.

The brothers were given quarters.  A room of their own.  They were clothed and fed and began their teachings at the temple.  After a week or so, Hoffa came to find them.  He said he had to leave, but he would return on his trade route in a few seasons.  Over the years he kept in touch, and it was always a great surprise when the trade roads brought Hoffa in for another visit.  Eventually his visits became fewer and further between.  When the brothers were in their teens, Hoffa came to them, he told the boys of his new shop that he had opened in the big city of Galvaine.  He needed to spend more time there to build it up and get it ship shape.  He looked up at the two young men and said that although he would not be able to come see them as often as he would like, if they ever traveled east, they could always find a place under his roof in the big city.

Growing up, most assumed Zendalyn was the older of the two, but neither are quite sure if that is the case.  The sole basis for this assumption is size alone.  Zendalyn towers over his brother at 6’5”. Whereas Lazlor is a mere 5’9”.

It is not just size alone that makes Zendalyn stand out, but their personality and appearance as well.  Dragonborn’s are an exotic race for the continent of Kul De’Has.  Dragons are mythical creatures and with that comes an element of mystique, worship and sometimes distrust and fear.  Zendalyn commanded a certain level of awe, their appearance presents as more of a traditional Blue Dragonborn.  Towering over those around him.  Blue draconic head and neck.  Thick muscled, and shimmering in the sunlight.  Tail swaying behind him as he walked through the halls.  Twitching while he read in the great library.

Both brothers do well within the order.  While both did well with their physical training, Lazlor seemed to find more of a passion for it.  Zendalyn preferred the contemplative side of his teaching.  Spending time in The Bathing Garden.  Meditating and basking in the glow of The Divine.  Books were never really a passion for Zendalyn.  He loved hearing the old stories told by The Elders but reading them directly wasn’t for him.  He preferred to watch people, hear their stories and contemplate their meaning.  The grand scheme of things never seemed difficult for Zendalyn to grasp.  It was in the minor details and the plodding pace of the library where knowledge lost him.  He took to his roles within the cathedral as well.  Becoming a regular attendant to The Elders conducting the services.

With their adolescence coming to a close, it is about time for the brothers to make their decision.  Are they to join The Order as a full-fledged initiate, or part ways with the temple and begin their life anew.  What choice will they make?  Well in the words of Aleister Zahn, “Perhaps we can find out together.”
